Roberta will perform original music while Madeleine will read from her poetry–and both will share how their work came to be and how writing, music, and creativity come together to make art and song.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Madeleine Beckman<\/strong> is a poet, fiction, and nonfiction writer. She is the recipient of awards and grants from, among other places, Poetry Society of America, New York Foundation for the Arts, Irish Arts Council (IE), Fundaci\u00f3n Valpara\u00edso (Spain); and Zvona i Nari (Croatia). Her poetry collections include Hyacinths from the Wreckage<\/em> (Serving House Books), No Roadmap, No Brakes<\/em> (Redbird Chapbooks), and Dead Boyfriends<\/em> (Linear Arts Books). Her work has been published in journals, anthologies, and online. Madeleine is Contributing Reviewer for the Bellevue Literary Review<\/em> and Contributing Editor for Agora: Literature and Arts Journal<\/em> (NYU School of Medicine). She teaches Narrative & Reflective Writing at NYU School of Medicine, Division of Medical Humanities; she also teaches privately. You can find her at\u00a0http:\/\/madeleinebeckman.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Roberta Lawrence<\/strong>\u00a0is a singer\/songwriter whose\u00a0songs\u00a0one day spontaneously\u00a0expanded into short stories and novels.\u00a0She is working on a novel, Quietly Crazy for You<\/em>,\u00a0which is inspired\u00a0by years spent in the alternate\u00a0universe of jazz and studio musicians\u00a0in the late 1970s\u00a0and 1980s. Roberta has received a New Voices Award from the Writer\u2019s Voice, a Ludwig Vogelstein Fiction grant, and multiple artist\u00a0residencies at Ragdale and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her articles and reviews have appeared in\u00a0BOMB<\/em>,\u00a0Musician<\/em>,\u00a0ASCAP in Action<\/em>,\u00a0Backstage<\/em>, and other publications.\u00a0She helms her\u00a0own public relations\u00a0firms, Roberta Lawrence Media\u00a0and Soundcheck PR, and is a singer\/songwriter, lyricist,\u00a0and record producer.
