an introduction by the Full Moon Quartet

Bands are always being asked to describe their music -- a strange request if you think about it. You might compare it to asking a painter to describe a color or a dancer to describe a movement. Only by hearing or seeing can you begin to understand what they are trying to express.

So, we will start by asking that you listen to us. And if you have already, then listen some more. What you hear is our interpretation of popular songs from the late 40s to the early 60s, the post-war era and Tin Pan Alley. We love this stuff. Playing these great standards in a small, intimate ensemble is why we were drawn together.

Listen for our influences, which include jazz, show tunes, rock, Latin music and blues. Listen for the inspiration we've gotten from the great songwriters, the timeless melodies and lyrics of our favorite artists like Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Billy Strayhorn, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Antonio Carlos Jobim. You may hear our attempts at channeling immortal performers like Nat "King" Cole, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, Grant Green, Miles Davis, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Fats Waller, Dinah Washington and John Coltrane. And, the music continues to evolve as we listen to Diana Krall, Eartha Kit, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown and Nancy Wilson, whose gifts we are lucky enough to experience now. It is our pleasure to share this music with you, however you may wish to describe it.
