It's my great pleasure to introduce to you the 20th anniversary issue of Ducts magazine!
Founded by Jonathan Kravetz in 1999, just before the second millenium, Ducts arrived on the scene in the early, heady days of webzines. Over the years, it has published 42 issues and hundreds of writers--many for the first time, and many who went on to write and publish books of their own. We are so glad and proud to have been the home of these pieces, and to welcome personal narratives of all shapes and sizes into the world.

The personal narratives in this issue cover a wide range of territory. Irix Anixter, Sarah Doudna, and Matthue Roth contributed pieces that could form a Venn diagram of mother-child relationships and the resulting impact on the lives and career aspirations of modern women. CJ Giroux and Norman T. Leonard, respectively, zero in on the power of place and the rollercoaster ramifications of living with depression. Finally, Benjamin Harnett gives us a tale of a woman navigating sexual harrassment in, of all places, a museum archive, while exploring the power of new technology to capture her desires. As always, each narrative offers a powerful and unique voice.

Welcome to the 40th issue of Ducts!
A lot has happened in our world in the last six months, and as always you’ll find unique and personal takes on it all within these pages–including some pieces that speak to the themes of abuse of personal power and those who resist.

This issue, we're excited to include a special musical playlist and visual art from guest arts editor, Tierney Malone. For each of five feature pieces, Tierney has curated a unique visual and musical pairing to accompany the literary work. Our arts section features an interview with the artist, musician, and jazz historian about his work and selections for this issue.

2017 will mark our eighteenth year in the world of online litmags and it's an exciting one for us. With the help of our amazing community of readers and supports, we just launched our brand-new, redesigned website, and we aren't stopping there.

The first order of business this issue is to thank all those who contributed to this spring’s Connect the Ducts campaign to redesign and modernize our website. With your generosity and help, we reached our goal, and the new redesign is finally here for many more new issues to come.
